Is EA going to make custom PCs?

One of the stranger stories to rise from the ashes of Comic-con to be sure.

There isn’t a PC gamer that wouldn’t tell you that it’s a hassle to keep up with current technology. Every year, at the farthest out, a PC gamer has to sink money into new graphics cards, the fanciest mouse, the best soundcard, a better processor, etc. While a great deal consider it a treat to upgrade their setup, with an enthusiasm that would rival the most devout “Car Guy,” most gamers consider it a hassle and a major financial burden. Something equivalent to having to buy a new PS3 every six months.

It’s no surprise then that more gamers than ever rely almost entirely on their choices of consoles. At least they have an average lifespan of five to seven years. But there is something to be said about playing a game on a PC, especially the graphics (if you can afford it) and the near limitless amounts of customizability if you are so inclined.

Well the story goes that an EA rep at Comic-con told someone that EA will begin marketing their own brand of PCs, each tailored to make the most of the games that they have in their lineup. According to this source, each will be in the price range of roughly $600 to $800 and the first will be out in time for the release of Crysis Warhead.

Personally I just don’t see hardcore PC gamers ditching their custom-built machines for this, but then again it may just be the marketing strategy that could revive PC gaming.

But you’ll still have to buy one every year to keep up. There’s no getting around that.
